Sony-Xperia-Z3-Android-5.0-Lollipop

Sony, The Japanese tech giant, surprised its users in a few official tweets in response to their fans, that Android Lollipop 5.0 will be released exclusively for their Xperia Z series devices. In other words, Xperia E1, E2, C3, M2, M2 Aqua, T3, and T2 Ultra (which were all released last year) will not be getting the new and desperately anticipated Lollipop update and will be stuck with Kitkat.

sony xperia lollipop tweet A massive wave of extreme disappointment and impending gloom came over Sony users who don’t have a ‘Z‘ on their smartphones, while ‘Z‘ users rejoiced in this news.

While it remains a fact that Sony’s smartphone domain has been struggling in the mobile market, it isn’t very wise to upset its customers. On the other hand, it is understandable that due to some financial knots, keeping the lid on the Lollipop to certain devices and ditching the update from others is their best solution so far. Softwares have become crucial to consumers and there is no point in getting stuck with an old software while using a device that is less than a year old. Now that Motorolla devices are coming back to the market packing up the Lollipop to their models, the ropes tighten around Sony products.

So what’s with Lollipop 5.0 anyway?

Lollipop-1

Lollipop is the latest Android alias for the 5.0 update of the Android mobile operating system. Lollipop was announced in November 2014 to replace the “KitKat” release.

Not only does it come with spec-blazing features, the most recognizable change in Android Lollipop 5.0 is the adorned interface “Material Design” that employs vivid colors, sleek layering and illusive shadows taking the user’s experience to a whole new level. Material Design is integrated with cutting-edge features; such as: multiple user support, a new notification system, support for 64-bit CPUs, Project Volta for optimizing the device’s battery life, sophisticated security measures which increases protection level and a rainbow of staggering options.

Is Sony going to change their decision about restricting the Lollipop update to their Z-series?

Even though Sony started updating their Z devices in early March, in their reply to another user, Sony‘s Twitter handle suggested that the update might include other Sony devices, but didn’t specify when or which in particular. They tweeted, “we can’t comment on upgrades for further products at this time – please stay tuned to our blog for the latest information.” So, we can only hope that Sony releases the new globally desired dessert to more devices.
