Basically a lot of people need a VPN Tunnel setup in order to encrypt their connection, especially TCP/IP connection from an application to a server. Butlet’s firstly define the VPN Tunnel.

What is a VPN Tunnel?

VPN is an acronym to Virtual Private Network which is needed to hide the actual IP address so that you can bypass the imposed restrictions in your country. For example China is one of the countries which impose hard restrictions on some websites, like social networking services “Facebook, Twitter”.

A VPN Tunnel setup is needed to overcome all these obstacles. A Tunnel is a link between two areas through some other material. It’s a direct shortcut through the Internet. Definitely a VPN Tunnel setup is not encrypted, so you need to create one in order to add some encryption to it.

What are the benefits of the VPN Tunnel setup?

Let’s say that you want to send some sensitive data from a branch of a company you work at to a server somewhere at your main office location. You will need to a VPN Tunnel setup to keep these data secure and hidden.

A VPN Tunnel setup is not only needed to facilitate your connection but also you can use a VPN Tunnel setup to secure all you communications.

How can you apply VPN Tunnel setup?

For example you want to forward a local port 7777 to port 80 so that you can access a web application on a remote machine

1-      Download Putty client “it’s a free implementation of Talent and SSH for Windows and UNIX platform” and run the executable. Fill in the hostname (IP) and other access information for SSH access.

2-      From connection, choose SSH, then select Tunnels menu. Here is where we configure the SSH tunnels. Enter your port information, put 7777 in the source port as a local host and put localhost80 in the Destination. These settings are shown below.

3-      Once you connect, the connection to the remote location’s window will appear.

4-      Your tunnel is now ready for use. Open a web browser, or point whatever application you are configuring to local host, and the port to whatever you set to forward. In this example it is port 7777 and forwards it to the web server.

This is one of the easiest ways to use a VPN Tunnel setup.

Integrating your WooCommerce/Shopify site with an ERP or Accounting system like Sage,
SAP, IQ Retail, Xero or other can save you a lot of time when updating your product stock, pricing or manually capturing orders on a day
to day basis. You can also set up a B2B trade store as well
for your account-customers to log in and place orders at their exclusive price.
