How to Allow VPN through Sophos Firewall (Easy Method)

Follow the steps below in order to stop Sophos Antivirus from blocking your VPN connection on your Windows system:

1- Launch the “Enterprise Console” , and then go to the “Endpoints” view.

2- Click on the View dropdown button to expand the menu.

3- On the bottom-left of your screen, go to “Policies”, and then click to expand the “Application Control Policies” section.

4- Double-click on the policy to change the policy of your VPN application.

5- Next, click on the “Authorisation” tab, and then browse through the application categories until you locate your VPN application to unblock it and give it access through Sophos firewall.

6- Now, in order to give authorisation to your VPN app, use the “arrow” button to move it from the blocked list to the list of authorised apps.

7- Click on the “OK” button to save your changes.

Your previously blocked VPN application is now allowed through the Sophos firewall.

Sophos Firewall Settings Explained

1- Primary location (Allow all traffic): this action is disabled by default and is not recommended to be reversed except with certain apps only because it gives you the option to allow all incoming and outgoing traffic to and from the internet.

2- Add configuration for a secondary location: this action is disabled by default because it is recommended to be used only with devices that are frequently connected to public or home networks, aka “additional networks”.

3- Applied location (Apply the configuration for the detected location): this action is disabled by default until you personally select “Apply the configuration for the detected location” to set a policy when the firewall detects a new location.
