Still many users prefer using the very professional, secure, and stable Blackberry phone over other devices. With online risks increasing each and every day. Blackberry phone fans need to further secure their devices if they want to remain connected safely to the online world and ensure complete online freedom and privacy. The only solution that combines all that is connecting to a Virtual Private Network or VPN. A VPN’s main purpose is to protect its users full online security, freedom, and privacy. VPNs support multiple security protocols and one of the most commonly used protocol is the Layer-2-Tunneling-Protocol or L2TP. In this tutorial we will be going through the detailed, step-by-step, process of manually setting up a VPN’s L2TP connection on your Blackberry phone.

 

Before we start, you need to make sure of the following points:

 

1- You must have a full subscription to a reliable VPN service

 

2- The VPN service that you are using must support the L2TP among its security protocols

 

Configuring L2TP on the Blackberry Phone

 

1- From the menu, select “Settings

 

2- In the “Settings”, select “Network and Connections

 

3- In the “Network and Connections” section, select “VPN

 

4- At the bottom of the page select the “+” sign to add a new connection

 

5- In the VPN profile page and in the field labeled “Profile Name” enter a name for the VPN connection of your choice

 

6- In the field labeled “Server Address”, enter the IP address or hostname of the server you want to connect to (this can be found in the VPN provider’s website and make sure that the server you choose supports L2TP)

 

7- Click to open the drop down menu labeled “Gateway Type” and select “L2TP/IPSec PSK

 

8- In the fields labeled “Authenticatication ID” and “MSCHAPv2 Password”, enter your VPN credentials

 

9- At the bottom of the page, click on the “Save” icon

 

10- At the top of the page, click on “Connect

 

Note: Once the connection is established, a small key icon will appear in the top right corner of your Blackberry device screen. This means that you have successfully configured a VPN L2TP connection on your Blackberry device.

 

How to Connect to the L2TP VPN Connection

 

1- From the menu, select “Settings

 

2- Select “Network and Connections

 

3- Select “VPN

 

4- Tap on the name of the connection you just created

 

5- Tap on “Connect
