Who said that you have to be classic to be good? With a growing potential and a stout bag of irresistible features, Windscribe is not just about pretty looks, but this Canadian VPN provider is a mean machine when it comes to a robust performance, tight security, a variety of features and cheap prices. In this review, we will discuss the different features of Windscribe VPN and what makes this young company a very good VPN provider based on our experience while using their free service.

The Website

windscribe vpn

Upon visiting Windscribe.com, you will notice how jolly, inviting and extremely user-friendly it is. It would not only draw a smile on your face, but it would actually make you enjoy navigating through it in a very sleek and subtle manner. You can stroll through different sections to get all the necessary information needed to understand what the company provides, price plans, troubleshooting steps, F.A.Q section and so much more.

Free Trial & Money-back Guarantee

Windscribe VPN offers a 30-day free VPN service that we have tested and found worthy.  The free plan gives you 10GB of data a month, access to 8 server locations and access to certain features like: firewall protection, adblock and permits P2P sharing. Although it does not give you full access to all the features, but it gives a generous amount of data and does a great job at protecting your identity and personal information on the internet at seamless speeds.

As for money-back guarantee, Windscribe does not offer any.

Pricing

In addition to the 10GB free plan, Windscribe offers 2 premium more packages (Pro monthly for $4.50/month & Pro yearly for $3.75/month) with unlimited bandwidth, access to all features and server locations as well as more encryption options.

Privacy

Windscribe VPN partially keeps logs as stated on its privacy policy section. The information kept, include: username, password, original IP address, VPN sessions duration, bandwidth, activities on their website. However, they do not keep records of your internet activities (excluding their website), nor do they keep connection timestamps.

” We store total amount of bandwidth your account has consumed in 1 month period, which is reset every month on the day of your registration. This is used to enforce free tier limitations as well as prevent abuse. We do not store historical usage. We also store a timestamp of your last activity on the Windscribe network, this is done to weed out inactive accounts. We do not store connection logs, IP timestamps, or sites you visit (we are firm believer that one’s browsing history should be taken to one’s grave).”

We would have preferred if they followed a zero log policy which guarantees optimal protection of a user’s personal information, identity and online activities.

Installation & Software

We signed up for a free account, downloaded Windscribe client for Windows and took it for a spin. We must admit that we were happy with the service and did not face any hassle with either the installation process, speed or overall performance.

Signing up is very easy, all that you need to do is to create a username/password and provide a valid email address.

Afterwards, you need to download the software on your platform. The Windows client took less than 3 mins to download and was about 15MB in size. The interface is very elegant and extremely easy to use. You can connect to any server just be expanding a list of servers and selecting one, then click connect. There is also an option to activate the firewall protection feature.

We were automatically connected to Germany server at first, but then we tested other servers including the US servers which we were surprised at the seamless speed. We usually struggle with US servers, but not with Windscribe.

Customer Support

To our disappointment, Windscribe does not have 24/7 live chat support. Therefore, you can only get in touch with them via email tickets. However, the team is very responsive when we contacted them. There are also F.A.Q and setup guides sections for troubleshooting and self-assistance. They also have a blog which includes news & information about internet privacy/anonymity.

Windscribe VPN Features

Despite the fact that it is a new, small VPN service provider, but Windscribe VPN is packed with all the necessary features any good VPN needs. Scroll down for ore details.

Servers & Bandwidth

Windscribe VPN has more than 45 servers spread across 28+ important countries all over the world, which not only contributes in boosting up the internet connections, but also contributes as a key factor in bypassing geo-restrictions.

As for bandwidth & connection speeds, Windscribe offers unlimited/unrestricted bandwidth to its paid subscriptions. Based on using their free trial (which is limited to 10GB), the speed was very fast and free from any interruptions during radio & video streaming.

Security Protocols

Windscribe uses AES-256 cipher with SHA512 auth and a 4096-bit RSA key encryption protocols to make sure that you are protected while using their services online. These high-level protocols shield your network connection from attackers, spies and identity thieves. They have 3 types of protection modes: TCP, UDP & Stealth.

Compatibility

Windscribe VPN is compatible with different platforms and internet browsers, such as: Windows, Mac, iOS, Linux, Opera, Chrome & Firefox.

Other Features

This is how Windscribe separates itself from other VPN service providers in the market today. By adding a few extra treats and tweaks for its subscribers, Windscribe has definitely managed to impress us today.

– Firewall (kill switch)

– P2Psharing is permitted

– Supports IPv6

– Adblocker

– Client for all major browsers

– API resolution (to unblock DNS restrictions, such as in China)

– DNS leak protection

– Cruise Control (connects you to the fastest server automatically)

– Secure.link generator (additional layer of protection from trackers & snoopers by creating secure links right from your browser)

– Anti-social feature (blocks all trackers while using social media websites, like: Facebook & Twitter)

Conclusion

We would like to express our satisfaction with Windscribe VPN. It is definitely a worthy competitor to big VPN names, like: ExpressVPN, Vypr, Nord, IPVanish, etc. The pros outweighs the cons. It is cheap, fast, reliable, optimally secure & can be used for a myriad of internet purposes.
